Aren't ya'll lucky? Today I have two reviews for you, but of a similar style!
The first is called The Penderwicks on Gardam Street. What can I say about this book, except for that one day I hope to write one exactly like it? It's exciting, mysterious, intriguing, happy, and over all wonderful! While the first Penderwick book was superb in it's own ways, this one far surpasses it.
The book again follows the life of the four Penderwick sisters, their father, and their Hound. It introduces some new characters that by the end of the book you're absolutely in love with.
The Penderwicks on Gardam Street felt much more like a first book as opposed to a sequel, which only added to it's charm. It felt like you were being reintroduced to their world, but still progressing deeper into the story line. I loved the whole plot idea and how you could guess what was going to happen at the end, but didn't actually know until the last few pages.
I would whole-heartedly recommend this book to anyone that's looking for a feel good and overall satisfying light read.
The second book is The Willoughbys by Lois Lowry. This was an enjoyable read, but not as satisfying as The Penderwicks or even The Mysterious Benedict Society. Still, I really liked it, but just not enough to give it more than three stars. I felt like it had some major flaws. The plot could be really confusing as far as the development of the characters, and the way the reader was supposed to be reacting to them. I kept waiting for certain characters to act a particular way, and then they didn't. Reading it I kept waiting for something more exciting to happen; but it just sort of floated along in it's own little world. I enjoyed it and would recommend reading it... but for me there was just something missing from it.
All right, that's all for now! Seriously though, these books are great whether you're young or old. And (I'm going to sound like a teacher here :P) it's good to diversify yourself with what you read :)
